You are enough!

It is common in today’s modern world to sometimes feel that we are not enough. We might feel that a family member, colleague or friend seems to be ‘doing life’ better than you. They might be making more money, having more energy than you, being more productive or seem to be having more fun. Perhaps we think they are more attractive than we are, and that the good things in life come to them more easily than they do to us.

It is easy to then beat ourselves up about things, thinking ‘I am not good enough’, ‘why can’t I be stronger, more confident, more attractive to others?’ We all have our own ‘Cop in the Head’ as Augusto Boal once called it, this ‘Cop’ self-polices you and shouts at you inside your head, telling you that you are not good enough and you need to ‘pull yourself together’.

Social media plays its part being a constant pressure to compare to others. Whether it be the number of friends, the number of ‘likes’ or by only showing us the good parts of people’s lives. This means we form an unrealistic expectation that we then try, in vein, to live up to.

There is no surprise in the fact that self-help books are a multi-million-pound industry, with people desperate to find a hidden truth, the one magic bullet to help them feel like they are good enough.

Though it is true that sometimes we can and should make positive changes in our lives, it is often more true that we are doing the best we can in the situations we are in. And even more importantly, if we can let this sink in so that we really believe it, and can even give ourselves a pat on the back sometimes, then we can even embrace the joy of ourselves and take more pleasure in our lives.

How does Reiki help you feel ‘good enough’?

When giving ourselves Reiki or receiving Reiki from another person our bodies relax. We let positive energy flow through us, and whilst we are in this relaxed state our blood pressure drops, our breathing slows and even our body temperature drops. These rare moments of calm can give us the clarity and the positive energy we need to appreciate our whole selves.

Every atom and every cell in our body is made up of energy. By being in a society that tells us we are not good enough, often to sell us the miracle cure, we often accept this falsehood as a truth and it effects every cell, every atom, every organ of our bodies. If instead we let our bodies relax and tune in to our more positive, innate energy, then we can change the body’s energy vibrations, which helps boost our positive feelings.

So when you start to feel that you are not good enough, or when that ‘Cop in the Head’ starts shouting at you, remember that you are enough means and you don't have to strive to become more worthy, more valid, more acceptable, or more loved. You already are all of those things.
